Have you ever heard of a ‘swivel sweet’ fruit?
There are many things that you will find in Montserrat that you will find no where else on earth. I think the smart people’s word for that is “endemic”.
Any hoo. Back to the swivel sweat. This is an amazing fruit and very unique. How unique? Let me prove it to you. Go to ‘Google’ right now and do a search. Type in “swivel sweet” or “swivel sweet fruit” for good measure. Tell me what you come up with. I’ll wait.
Hmmm, hmmmm, hmm, hm. Good, you’re back! Did you find anything? Nope? Thought so. Yes, back to my point, the swivel sweet fruit is a very unique fruit found growing just about everywhere in Montserrat.
Interestingly enough, there are very limited orange trees to be found in Montserrat. I, myself, have done some exploring of this enchanting country and have yet to happen upon an orange, tangerine, or any sweat rine in the citrus group.
What I have found and been duped by is the infamous swivel sweet fruit. My best description of this most stimulating fruit, tastebuds in this case, is a cross between an orange and a grapefruit; hence the pictures.
Seriously, I have eaten some of these fruit that upon first bite, those first juices are just delectable; and then, in rolls the grapefruit characteristics, and destroys everything in sight with the most bitter aftertaste, exactly like a grapefruit.
Word of advise, if you see what could look like an orange-type tree on the side of the road loaded on every limb with barely any space to spare just looking sun-kissed, juicy and inviting, spare yourself the pain. Trust me, when I tell you, you are being duped.
Now that we’ve gotten that out the way. These very same exotic fruit make THE most exquisite natural flavored drink. This fruit makes a drink that I could only describe as the caviar of lemonades. Yep, seriously!
Do you have swivel sweet fruits where you are from? If so, tell me about it in the comments below. I don’t think so, personally. I think this is one of those many species of life that exist in Montserrat and no where else in the world.
By the way, if you happen to be in Montserrat and see one, pick it and make some ‘swivelmate’, I just made that up. You’ll thank me later!

Swivel Sweer is actually bitter Orange. It’s used a lot in cooking in Latin America and also used in the Latin countries in the Caribbean. When I was in Mexico in the Yucatán area they used it heavily. To season meats and other things. It’s a dominant citrus flavor in their cooking. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts. Thanks Lioness!!! Thanks for your article on this web site. From my personal experience, occasionally softening upward a photograph could provide the photographer with a bit of an inspired flare. More often than not however, that soft blur isn’t what exactly you had in mind and can quite often spoil an otherwise good photo, especially if you anticipate enlarging them.
